The receiver cannot read emails from Write

Write has the facility to "Send" files via email, in common with many other programs (including other Ability applications). This function is a standard Windows operation and works by attaching the file to your email program (except with the Plain text option). The email program must be MAPI compliant for this operation to work.

Problem: How do you know the receiver has the right program to open the file? This could mean any of Ability, Microsoft Office, Adobe PDF reader must be installed. Do you even know if the receiver is running Windows?

Solution: Don't assume that the receiver has any particular program. Instead, try one of the following, depending on what you are trying to achieve:

  1. Choose a common file format - many programs can read either Adobe PDF, Microsoft Word DOC or Rich Text Format files. So in Ability, select File/Send and choose one of these formats. If in doubt, you could always ask the receiver what sort of file they would like!

  2. Plain text will always work. If you want to guarantee the receiver can read the message, select File/Send/Plain Text. Plain text inserts the document into the main body of the email rather than as an attachment - please note all formatting (bold/italic/bullets etc) will not be sent.
